The President of the Harari Regional State, the Honorable Fuad Ibrahim; and the
Mayor of the City of Harar, the Honorable Zeydan Bekri held a town hall meeting
in San Jose on July 10, 2005.

The event was jointly sponsored by the Northern California Hararian Association
and the Bay Area Harari Community. Our sources reveal that this was the first time
in 6 years that these two Harari organizations came together under one roof.

The meeting was commenced by the chairpersons of the two organizations with each
briefly addressing the gathering. That was followed by the leaders addressing
the gathering about conditions in Harar and what is expected from Hararis in diaspora.
Thereafter, the leaders entertained various questions about Harar from those present
at the town hall meeting. Among the issues that were raised at the meeting are
the status of the water project, political conditions in Ethiopia, and HIV/AIDS.

The gathering was satisfied with the answers provided by the leadership, and was
appreciative of their hard work and dedication for the cause of Harar.

The leadership urged Hararis in the Bay Area to work jointly to address Harari issues,
and to form a single Harari Community that will look after the interest of Hararis both
in the Bay Area as well as in Harar. Both organizations committed to working
together to achieve this goal.
