The President of the Harari Regional State, the hon. Fuad Ibrahim; and the Mayor of Harar,
the hon. Zeydan Bekri, held a meeting with a group of Hararis in Washington, DC
on July 3, 2005.

The meeting started by the leaders describing the existing conditions in Harar, such as,
the water situation and improvements that were achieved over the years, the challenges
that HIV/AIDS pose in the Harari Regional State, and the unemployment problems that
exist among the youth and young adults in Harar. They then discussed how Hararis in
diaspora can help address some of the problems that exist in the Harari Regional State.

This was followed by a lively question and answer session. All the participants gained a
great deal of knowledge by this meeting, and there was a renewed commitment to
participate in Harari issues.
